Storyline: A mere 200 yards from shore, surfer Nancy is attacked by a great white shark, with her short journey to safety becoming the ultimate contest of wills. In the taut thriller The Shallows, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy's ingenuity, resourcefulness, and fortitude. Written by Sony Pictures Entertainment. Be careful because what was once in the deep is now in the shallows.

The Shallows of Your Fears

Gender equality, this was just one of the issues pertinent today. An ideology that refers to the equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities for both men and women.  In line with this, in the movie “The Shallows”, Nancy’s character portrays a very good exemplar for what should a modern women would be.

The first thing I admired from her character was her perseverance. As mentioned earlier the movie is all about a woman stranded on a small island as she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. In there she stands brave and strong together with her determination and willpower that she will survive and will go home soon. To tell it frankly, if I was the one on her situation perhaps I am just crying all day and all night long until I will become a meal of that shark. Personally, I am really afraid of any kind of animals and I don’t know why. Maybe because I feel so anxious, so imagine what more on that great, huge, big fish shark right? But Nancy’s character was different. She made a plan, she observed, and do the best of her ability just to escape from that deathful face off. Her secret was no other than her strength of character.

“Not everyone can be helped.”
                     - Nancy

She believes that nobody will save her other than herself also. If she really wants to survive and escape from that situation she must be the one moving. That the help that she need is only on the tip of her hands. A woman has her own power and will to do a thing. It does just need some motivation to push through that spirit. Hope, this was the driving force Nancy’s character use. The belief that soon she can go home and be together with her family.

“I’m not dying here.
I'm going to fight.
I am.
Just like she taught us.”
                    - Nancy
It also takes inspiration for her to be truly brave enough to face that situation. The secret behind her strong personality is no other that her mom. She knows that her mom believes her in all ways. That if she gives up then she will no longer be with her family again.

Inspiration is the first thing that makes her fight, determination makes her stand, perseverance makes her bigger than the shark, and hope makes her brave and strong enough to conquer her fears.

Hey! Have some plunge.

Listening to this song actually makes me feel powerful, stronger, and bold. This is just one of the official soundtracks used in the movie. I hope you find those feelings too as you listen to this song. Enjoy!
